Ernesto Sabato is one of my favorite writers. I read him quite a while ago. A few days ago, I decided to buy one of his novel, called The Tunnel. It is about the crime committed byJuan Pablo Castel, a dude who has being lonely and cold-hearted. Just at the beginning of the book, I found a quote that reminds me a very interesting manual floating around on the internet. The quote goes like this:
"It is this type of questions that I consider useless. Nevertheless, you have to expect them, because people are constantly
asking useless questions, questions where even the most superficial analysis would show that they were unnecessary."
The Tunnel, Ernesto Sabato.
Although Castel says it with misanthropy, there is a very good point to tackle there.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with asking, since we can not be self-sufficient (if we can, it may probably not make sense). What is wrong is asking without any previous effort, specially if you are asking in an area your are supposed be good at (or want to).
This is a classic. Whatever you do, this may be very useful. Again, it is not about not asking, but about How to Ask (Questions) The Smart Way.
